Hi! I’m Dr. Kate
Welcome to My Elephant Adventures!
Here I share my passion for elephants through the lens of medicine, conservation, welfare, and the rich cultural experiences that are deeply interconnected with elephants across the globe.
In January 2025, I will be embarking on a month-long journey to Thailand to immerse myself in the world of elephants. Throughout this trip I will be learning about elephant veterinary care while exploring sustainable conservation efforts and working to improve the well-being of captive elephants. My goal is to share my experiences to provide insight on the challenges elephants face in the wild and in captivity, as well as the efforts being made to protect them for future generations.
This blog will also serve as a window into the work being done in Thailand and around the world to ensure elephants thrive in a changing world. Many sanctuaries in Thailand focus on rescuing elephants from exploitation in tourism and provide them with a safe, natural environment to live out their lives. These sanctuaries emphasize ethical care, proper medical treatment, and rehabilitation, helping to improve their physical and emotional well-being. Globally, conservation efforts are focused on combating habitat loss, poaching, and human-elephant conflict, while also promoting sustainable tourism practices that contribute to elephant protection.
While in Thailand, I will be training under veterinarians at elephant hospitals and volunteering at elephant sanctuaries. With these experiences, I hope to highlight the importance of ethical tourism and compassionate care. Whether you’re an elephant enthusiast, a veterinary professional, or simply interested in my globetrotting adventures, I invite you to follow along on my educational and transformative journey as I explore the incredible world of elephants across Thailand!
